Week 2 Curiosity Hour

Today we had our first curiosity hour session where students work in groups to find a solution to a problem which is not easy to find on google.

Often during tasks we tend to go to one website and copy the first bit of information we have found. We are only consuming the information not producing anything with what we have read/found/sourced. Curiosity Hour is for students to practice collaborating with others to research complex questions and create their own solutions. We may need to look at 5 different website and use prior knowledge from our group members to be able to come up with a suitable solution to a problem.

During today's session we had a few 'this is hard' comments - which is fabulous because if it's not hard we aren't stretching ourselves and learning!

As a teacher I found the exercise challenging as I often want to jump in and help, offer suggestions or help with conflicts of ideas.

I was also impressed with the team work displayed today, Ciara and Tane worked very well together as well as Mathias and Sam C. I wonder if having only two members in their group present made a difference?

I look forward to seeing how we all push ourselves out of our comfort zone in our learning more this term with curiosity hour!
