Homework Expectations

We have an expectation of 30 minutes of homework, 4 nights a week at Heretaunga Intermediate.
Homework will be set each month and will be due every Friday. I believe knowing what is expected and having some flexibility with time (e.g. over the weekends) will ensure everyone will have adequate time to complete tasks taking into account extra-curricular and family commitments during the week.
I feel it is really important to have a good balance of academic, health and wellbeing for homework. It is good to focus on becoming positive and productive members of our households and communities.
Homework will consist of compulsory and optional tasks, students must log in their homework books what they complete each day and have a parent or caregiver sign off the work.
  • basic facts/math problem solving aligned to stage you are in,
  • 10 minutes of reading each night (comics, blogs, books, newspaper),
  • chore task minimum of one per week (a chore above and beyond what is normally expected),
  • current events - write a summary of one story which interested you (minimum one per week),
  • minimum of one the optional activities (mini projects, arts, technology, design, sports, cultural) each week.

Homework is to be completed in your homework book. Internet access at home is not essential for all tasks.

Note to parents: If your child cannot complete homework for any reason, please ensure you write a note or email me at skale@hint.school.nz
